Over 10 Km of dedicated snowshoe trails

Whether you are looking for a quiet walk through giant hemlocks or a challenging climb to a scenic bluff, the snowshoe trails at ABR offer a unique way to explore areas not accessible by skis. The snowshoe trails also take you along the banks of the Montreal River and to the remote corners of our property. ABR Trails boasts an entire network of snowshoe trails that offer something for everyone.

Trail Options

Base Loop ~0.9 km

The Base Loop (Blue) begins behind the Ski Chalet, access goes up the hill towards the large pines. Once you reach the top of the hill, enjoy the view, this is one of the highest elevations on the property. The remainder of the Base Loop moves through hardwood and hemlock forest through hummocky/hilly terrain. Base Loop is also a great way to access Bear Paw.

Wisconsin Loop ~0.4 km

The Wisconsin Loop connects the Base Loop to the River Trail. It traverses the top of the Bluff behind the Ski Chalet.

Cabin Trail ~1.4 km

The Cabin Trail (Pink) is a y-shaped out and back trail that is the shortest connecting route for each cabin (other than Cherry Cabin) to the trailhead. Anyone can use this trail but it is heavily utilized by the overnight cabin guests as an alternative to skiing out to cabins. This trail can also be used to access the Michigan Loop. The cabin trail is mostly flat but does head downhill gradually after the #16 intersection.

Cedar Loop ~1.0 km

The Cedar Loop (Orange) is located up on one of our beautiful bluffs and contains beautiful hemlock and cedar forests. This trail has a considerable elevation gain and loss but the views are worth the effort.

Bear Paw Loop ~0.8 km

The Bear Paw Loop (Red) includes sections “above the hill” moving from marker #13 over to #4 and sections “below the hill” with markers #14-#16. This is a challenging loop with considerable elevation gain and loss but the old growth hemlock trees are a highlight of the loop.

Meadow Loop ~1.4 km

The Meadow Loop (Green) is one of our most level snowshoe trails, accessible on the east side of the practice loop along the woods/fence this trail runs along the practice loop then begins a gentle climb above the Cherry Cabin to marker #8 where it climbs into a hardwood forest and then levels out again as you come around to marker #9.

Michigan Loop  ~1.8 km

The Michigan Loop (Yellow) is a guest favorite that spans a wide variety of terrain including bluffs, pine and hardwood forests.

Montreal Loop  ~0.5 km

The Montreal Loop (Orange) is a small loop that moves through the lowlands near the river. It can be a swampy area in the late spring but offers beautiful views of the Montreal River in the winter.

Ski Jump Loop ~0.7 km

The Ski Jump Loop (Orange) is our most challenging loop with the biggest reward, a view from the top of a rock bluff where you can see for many miles in all directions. The trip “up the rock” can be challenging and depending upon the snow cover, may require you to remove your snowshoes and scramble up the rock face to see the view from the top. Historically, this is where Eric and his brothers would “ski jump” off the rock and into the deep snow.

River Trail ~1.6 km

The River Trail (Orange) is an out-and-back trail that can be combined with other trails to make a “loop” back to the trailhead. From marker #27 it heads downhill to the Montreal River. At times the section from the base of the hill through the thick growth to the river area can be wet. This trail makes its way down to and along the Montreal River. From marker #26 to #27 the trail is mostly flat, it lies between the river and the ski trail. This trail offers beautiful views of the river where you may be able to see otters and their sliding tracks.
