Project CONNECT: Boardwalk Rebuild

The Anderson Bluffs & River Trails Foundation completed rebuilding the boardwalk at Norrie Park on the Jack Pine Trail in September 2023.

The old boardwalk had deteriorated over the years. Steiger’s Home Center in Bessemer, Michigan, donated significant amounts of lumber to the Anderson Bluffs & River Trails Foundation for the project.

Bill Steiger said, “We would like to make a donation to you guys to get you off to a good start. We are excited to see this take off.” The Steiger family has helped the community for many generations. The Foundation is very thankful to Steiger’s Home Center.

Eric Anderson worked with Dan Jones and Ivan Hellen to reclaim numerous 30 foot White Cedar timbers milled over 100 years ago to use as structural members in the new boardwalk. These trees were used by Eric’s great-great Grandfather Korkiamaki. The ABR Inc. team brought equipment to remove the old boardwalk and place the new lumber.

Volunteers came through to complete the boardwalk. Big thanks to Missi King and Leighton Naff.
