Nearly 15 years ago, our daughter and son-inlaw introduced us to a place in the UP called ABR. They had been skiing here for some time and knew we would love it too. We discovered a winter wonderland with snow covered meadows and hills and expertly groomed xc ski trails. We also found new friends in Eric and Angela.
Over the years we stayed in several different lodgings, including Sand Point Rustic Cabin, Saari House, Everet’s Cabin, Hilltop House and Kaartunen House. We never missed a winter and a chance to ski the best trails in the Midwest. We were often joined by family and friends.
Cabin on Blueberry Bluffs
Eventually , we built our little cabin on Blueberry Bluffs. We named it NorthUp, after our three-year-old granddaughter mixed up her words, asking her parents to go “north up” to visit grandma and grandpa.
While many of our friends prefer to winter in the warmth of the southern sun, we head north to the frigid beauty of ABR. Even in this year, with its historic lack of snow, we enjoyed some skiing, lots of hiking and snowshoeing, bird watching, and reading by the fire. These woods are so quiet and peaceful. There is no better place to spend the winter.
We are grateful for the vision and leadership of David and Eric Anderson, establishing this place called ABR. We appreciate the efforts of the newly formed Anderson Bluffs and River Trails Foundation, guiding it into the future for our grandchildren to enjoy.
